Cemetery

I should be thinking of sadness
Of the unmarked graves
And unpunished sins
But the crunch of leaves is too loud
And the warmth of the sun too gracious
And I am too living
This sun and shade quiet
Holds the bodies of many
Not all engraved in memory
But someone wept when the earth received them
And now I listen to birds and wind
And glory in the life around me
Trying to be conscious of the dead underfoot
